What to do this week – October 27 – November 2: Halloween Edition

What did Sherriff Leigh Brackett (Halloween) say again? “It’s Halloween, everyone’s entitled to one good scare.” We couldn’t agree more. So here’s to a week of — thrills!

Monday

Time to live life and on the edge and start your week off on a high – 1168 feet above Toronto’s skyline to be exact.  The CN Tower EdgeWalk may be scary at first, but word has it that once you open your eyes and take in the breathtaking view of our great city, your heart will stop beating at a mile a minute.

Then get ready for an evening of song and dance. The Actor’s Fund of Canada hosts Don’t Stop Believin’ in benefit of Broadway Care and Equity Fights AIDS.

Tuesday

The best writers of contemporary literature are in town for the International Festival of Authors at the Harbourfront. Don’t be skurrred, it’s just readings (especially in the thriller genre), interviews and book signings from at least 70 authors – see? You’ll love it!

We all love supernatural horror movies right? Well, either way, in light (or dark) of Halloween week, Ouija is on in theatres. It goes a little something like this: girl plays with a Ouija Board, gets killed and her friends investigate the board. Of course, because why would they endure the same fate right?

If you don’t wish to have be scared off your pants, you might appreciate a nice (yes nice) thriller in Stonehearst Asylum.

Laugh it all off with St. Vincent. It may not be terrifying, but you can put on the laugh…you know – mwahahahahahaaaaa!

Wednesday

Vegetarians, this next one is for you as it is sure to scare all the carnivores away; unless they are veg-curious. Toronto’s finest food tour dedicated to vegetarian and vegan foods, Vegecursion, is happening on hump day. Come rain or shine, you can enjoy a leisurely walk to some of the city’s best restaurants for some innovative and healthy eco-conscious food. Whether you like it raw or with a vegan fusion, your taste-buds will be tantalized.

Our favourite spook family is in town! The Addams slit up the Citadel Theatre. Wednesday is now 18 and in love with a man her family has not yet met until his eerily normal family comes for dinner at 0001 Cemetery Lane.

If you’d rather grab a buddy, a beer and are ready to do the Time Warp, then head down to the Ossington Theatre for The Rocky Horror Cabaret Show. Join all your favourite characters as they perform your favourite songs from your favourite cult-classic musical! Oh the horror!

Thursday

Bring your wits to the 11th night of terror at the Halloween Haunt, Canada’s Wonderland. Included in 20 + rides are Night Mares, Psyclone, The Bat, The Rage and new for 2014, Zombies 4D, an interactive dark ride – oooooooooooo! Then we dare you to get lost (and find your way out) in some horrifying mazes: Terror of London and Cornstalkers – to name two.

You can also enjoy some live shows: Toxicity, Skeleton Crew, Mysterion the Mind Reader and Haunted House (a 3D film).

Go on, embrace the terror in all creepy scare zones! Before the end of the night you should be saying: “I see dead people.”

It’s the last Thursday of the month and Montgomery’s Inn hosts Thirsty Thursdays in their newly renovated barroom. And since it is from the 1830s era, some of the elderly ghosts may join you for a drink.

Friday

There is no excuse for this weekend. The spook list is endlessssss, yesssss it isssssss.

Of the hundreds of events planned, here are a few suggestions guaranteed to tickle your fancy jolt you off your a$$.

Take a frightening cruise to the shores of Lake Ontario. Ghost Ship (on the Empress of Canada) boasts three levels of partying with hors d’ouevres, food and plenty to drink as well as a cash prize for the best costume!

On Mercer Street, Maison Mercer hosts Blackout Halloween Night. Blackout – enough said.

Maybe you prefer to keep it fresh and pay tribute to the best names in Dance, Hip Hop, House and Pop from the 90s baby! The 5th Annual Fresh Prince of Bel Air is on at the Sound Academy.

Then there’s the Halloween Massacre at the Roy Thomson Hall. All the best R’n’B, Hip Hop, House and Mash up guaranteed to keep you on the dance floor.

The biggest party ever is at Kool Haus. Join them for their last Halloween ever! Think 3000 people getting down to Top 40, Hip Hop, Reggae, RnB, Soca and Trap. The vibe will be insane!

If you can’t make a choice, then the Halloween Club Crawl 2014 is just for you. Ride in a stretch limo with a VIP wristband for one fun wild party on wheels as you hit Gravity Sound Bar, Maison, Fiction, C Lounge, Easy & The Fifth & Tryst.

Saturday

It’s time to screeeeeeeeeeeeeem! The CNE’s Halloween tradition is back with haunted houses, mazes, monsters, all creepy creatures and a lot more goblin and ghoul-ishness. Screemers, get down there.

The forbidding club scene continues on Saturday night and here are some bloodcurdling suggestions:

Day of the Dead (at The Everleigh) is one of the best parties in Toronto this Halloween weekend! Andy Alias, the club’s resident DJ, will be spinning the best House music all night long.

Johnny Jackson challenges you to be Trapped with the Dead. Don’t worry, you’ll live.

You don’t have to nurse your Friday night hangover at home because Cube has the cure with The Halloween Hangover and $500 cash prize for the best male and best female costume.

DJ Jed Dadson is on the decks The Day after Halloween at Uniun.

Or MASQ who you really are just for the night at Guvernment.

Sunday

Okay Okay… We mean head over on over to Okay Okay for a brunch experience (especially their pancakes) way better than okay, okay?

If you’re still looking for something to do in the dark you can try Evil Dead: The Musical, a treat for horror-movie buffs and fans of sing-along slapstick mutilation, at the Randolph Theatre, which is not far from Honest Ed’s….honestly.

Something less spooky is on at the Air Canada Centre this Sunday. If you’re into smooth sounds, sexy dance moves and well, eye-candy, join Usher for the UR Experience. “Believe Me” it’s a show you’re not going to want to miss. Don’t get too “Caught Up,” it’s Sunday, take it “Nice & Slow.”
