What To Do This Week: August 25-31

Most of the free daily Harbourfront events all come to an end this week (no sad faces yet) and with the weather looking like it’s back on our side, you might want to head down for a little taste.

Harbourfront: Enjoy a relaxing canoe/paddleboat ride at the Natrel Pond on Monday. After that, graduate to the “grown-up pool” with a mini power boat rental to motor in the lake with. Robyn and Röyskopp are also in town and will be rocking fans at the TD Echo Beach.

Catch up on the box office hits on Tuesday. Those that have done well in August and are being re-watched include: The Expendables, The Giver, Guardians of the Galaxy, Into the Storm, Let’s Be Cops, Step Up: All In and TMNT.

Harbourfront: Whether you’re into self-defense or leading a healthy lifestyle, join the Tai Chi master for one more free class by the Exhibition Common.

You’ve taken the tour of the city by bus; now see it from up top on Wednesday. Toronto Heli Tours is offering a 53% discount via Groupon giving more people the “wings to fly.”

Harbourfront: Explore the world of funny femmes as Free Flicks: Funny Girls showcases some of the best female comedic talent. But don’t forget about Chris Isaak as he rocks Massey Hall that evening.

Thursday

Harbourfront: Dancing on the pier is the order or the day so get ready to “shake what your mama gave ya” and have a swinging good time with the live bands and dance styles from around the world.

“MMMBop” with Hanson at the CNE (part of the daily Banshell concerts). The best part is you only pay $6 if you go after 5pm. It’s the CNE so enjoy a ride and a midway treat as well. The buzz is corn on a cob wrapped in bacon – again, MMMBop!

A new art exhibition series is paving the way for emerging artists in Toronto. Fountainhead is presenting their first showcase, “Forging Scenes” at The Black Cat and the show begins at 7p.m.

If you haven’t experienced DJ Deep Fried Friday’s then you could be in deep trouble if you don’t use this last chance. Great spinners coupled with deep fried goods, who can pass that up, seriously? Big movie premiers this week include Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Daniel Radcliffe’s latest installment, The F Word.

If you’re into hip hop and funky beats, you will want to be at Annette Studios this Friday at 9p.m. where local band, Beaudifulhors, will be playing. Tickets are only $7 at the door.

Drink creatively at Pappas Grill on the Danforth. Yep, enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine while a professional artist guides you from a blank canvas to a masterpiece. For more details, go to PaintNite. Drink. Paint. Connect.

Saturday is a good day for fans of comics, sci-fi, horror, anime and the gaming world. The Metro Toronto Convention Centre will be alive with animation and celebrity guests including Nathan Fillion, Patrick Stewart, William Shatner, Elijah Wood, Hulk Hogan, Sheryl Lee, Anna Silk, Hulk Hogan and many more! The legendary comic creator Stan Lee will also be there.

3 rooms, 3 sounds. That’s what you get at Gravity Sound Bar on Bass Addikt Saturdays.

Hit the Lakeview Market on Sunday and while you’re there, stop by the Ashkenaz Festival, North America’s premier festival of global Jewish music and culture. Let’s not forget to ride the new streetcar to Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market where you can indulge in a hearty brunch from KOS Restaurant, Saving Grace or Average Joe’s Café. Then go back out in to the market and walk it off.
