Day one of VELD Music Festival was absolutely magical, and the second day took things to a whole new level! Sunday was hot and humid, but a few drops of rain at noon cooled off the area slightly, and the weather gods were on our side for the rest of the day. The line-up was fantastic with artists such as Martin Garrix, Iggy Azalea, Zedd, Calvin Harris and more.
Mark Oliver opened the festival and got the crowd hyped up for the rest of the day. Martin Garrix took over after that and played an hour-long set before heading off to LA for Hard Summer. His beats made everyone jump non-stop—surely making Downsview Park shaking! We all love Martin Garrix, and it’s evident that the other DJs do as well. I lost count of how many times I heard Animals and Tremor over the two-day festival!
DVBBS probably put on the most energetic performance I’ve ever seen. The duo never stopped moving and jumping on the stage. Some DJs get up, introduce themselves, perform and leave. This is not DVBBS. They never stopped interacting with the crowd and their energy was always at 110%.
Everyone was excited to see Zedd and he got everyone singing when he played Clarity and Stay the Night. Knife Party knew how to give the crowd a workout. When they wanted all the ladies up for Internet Friends, up on the shoulders they all went, whether they were up front, in the middle, or at the very back. What a sight it was!
Meanwhile, there was a large crowd forming at the Bacardi Tent for none other than the lovely Iggy Azalea. She took the stage by storm with her music and her dance moves. Her enthusiasm was contagious and the dance vibe flowed through everyone as they danced and sang along with her.
The festival closed with a final set from Calvin Harris, attracting the largest crowd of the day. Everything about his set was perfect, from the music to the special effects. If you purchased the glasses from the merch booth, you’ll know what I’m talking about! It was mind-blowing! The stage was an amazing giant kaleidoscope. He had all of Toronto dancing to every track and everyone went wild when he played the biggest dance hit of the season, Summer.
We can’t wait to see what next year’s VELD Music Festival will have in store for us!
