There’s a Pokemon epidemic taking over the world and the only thing it can be compared to is when everyone was collecting cards way back when. Pokemon Go is Nintendo’s augmented reality app which is the first of its kind. Users download the app to their phone and walk around neighborhoods collecting Pokemon and grooming them for battle. It’s currently available in the US, New Zealand and Australia. Pokemon Go hopefuls in other countries are currently stuck waiting on the sideline as Nintendo slowly but surely rolls out the first game of its kind. Canada, Europe and South America are next on the list and yesterday’s launch was super crazy as servers are having trouble dealing with all the Pokemon trainers. It’s currently sitting pretty at #1 on both the free and top gross apps charts.
On my lunch I witnessed two adults looking down at their phones wandering around in search of Pokemon. And in Australia a police station had to put out a memo insisting people not come in to collect their Pokemon. People are also driving and collecting Pokemon at the same time which could possibly lead to crashes. Stopping stupidity is hard but so far this game is awesome. It will be interesting to see how far Nintendo takes Pokemon Go. Would you be interested in playing such a game?
