Located just a few steps away from Trinity Bellwoods park, The Happy Hooker will put a smile on your face, without taking a gouge out of your wallet. No, we’re not talking about the traditional sense of the word hooker. We’re talking about the fisherman’s sense of the word, as The Happy Hooker is one of the newest fish & chip places in Toronto.
The Happy Hooker can be found at 887 Dundas Street West in Toronto. (Just west of Bathurst). Since opening in March of this year, they have built momentum and a name for themselves with the people of the area and those who have heard about them through multiple recommendations. A quick look on their website will show that they are still a work in progress, but that there has been a great deal of buzz about them.
Their price points are wonderful for the quality, and quantity of food that they offer. Add to that the playful and kitschy atmosphere of the restaurant and The Happy Hooker has a hit on their hands. With traditional fish & chips, to a ‘between the buns’ selection of fish infused sandwiches, there is something for everyone. There is even an organic selection of salads and greens for those who aren’t quite so hungry. With a menu that has the majority of prices between $8-$11 it is a place that won’t break the bank; unless of course you get caught up playing the vintage tabletop Pac-Man game that’s in the store.
For those interested in trying The Happy Hooker now, you’ll sadly have to wait until the new year. The restaurant has closed its doors for the holiday season giving the staff and fish a chance to have time with family for the holidays. Keep watch on their website though as they will be opening again in January and will not disappoint with their offerings. The Happy Hooker is one place people would love to visit again and again.
