Taste Of Toronto Food Festival

Taste Of Toronto Food Festival

You all know Love This City TV doesn’t miss out on the new and upcoming street or food festivals this city has to offer. We attended Taste of Toronto and the execution of this event didn’t go unnoticed. The event featured several local upcoming small businesses, as well as some well-known brands in attendance such as Nespresso, ACE Bakery, Ketel One and North 44 and new brands like Bike drinks from Italy.

It was located at Fort York and Garrison through June 23 to June 26. Thursday and Friday sessions were $19 each and weekend sessions were $25.  Purchasing at the door cost $29 up to $74 for VIP. The size and layout was simply perfect for this type of event; it’s compact enough to not have to walk far for anything, yet still leaves enough space to not feel crowded.

Most festivals like Taste of Toronto use a preloaded card option for item purchases, which at this event was the pre-paid ‘crown’ system. This was a great idea to keep lines moving quickly. The festival also did a great job of ensuring diversity, so you truly could choose from a wide range of food varieties.  This Baha Mexican Sandwich by ACE Bakery is packed with flavour- Chipotle chicken breast topped with beet mayo, fresh vegetables, pickled jicama, and poblano pâté on their charcoal bun! Colourful and delicious!

Some options Love This City tasted:

P.E.I. Oysters at Piano  ($8 for 4 oysters).  Onsite shucking was present which is always nice to see how your food is prepared for tasting. The oysters were garnished with onions and secret sauce.

Takoyaki had a few food options and the line was always full due to their popularity.  The Octopus was the hit of the day and ranged from $6 – $10 from the Kinka Family. It was perfectly grilled and was a generous portion.

Avocados from Mexico (new) had 3 options for tasting. The salmon poke ($2) and avocado popsicle ($2) and avocado toast ($2) served with corn and beans. Pricing was on point and definitely attracted more people to give it a try. You would think an avocado popsicle would be a bit odd, but in all honesty it was even more delicious than a regular dessert, just enough sweetness and health benefits included. It was very refreshing and totally worth it.

If you had an Amex card, you were able to access the VIP lounge area.  Two bars were available for purchasing drinks, accessible tables, seating areas, even mats on the grass for you to have a picnic with your food. It was a really nice space and gave festival goers a nice place to enjoy their food.

There is truly nothing better than to pair delicious food with a beverage that compliments your taste buds. There were hits like Ketel One, Two Sisters wine, Pilsner Urquell, Bike Drinks from Italy.

We would like to shout out Beaujolais wine. They had more than just 2 wine options to choose from, which separated them amongst most of the other wine vendors. French-made wine has a full bodied taste. Since it was a beautiful HOT day they kept the wine on ice and this type of wine actually gives more flavor when iced (reds included) making them very popular.
