Noticable Spring and Summer Trends for 2016
I’m not a fashion expert, but working part time in retail has definitely given me insight into this year’s hottest trends. I’ve usually never been the first to know about what kind of clothing is “in” for each season, but retail life has changed that for 2016. One thing is for sure, spring time weather is right around the corner even though the snow in April makes it quite hard to believe. I’ve decided to get inspired for spring and summer weather and took a good look around the mall and the store I work in for what’s trending in women’s fashion for the spring season. To my surprise I definitely noticed common themes in most of the stores I went into and here is what I saw:
Florals: If you look around most women’s clothing stores right now I’m almost positive you’ll see an array of floral print on their clothing. Flower patterns have always been a universal reminder of spring-time and warmer weather. What I like most about the floral prints I have seen this year is all the variety of different colours that are used in the prints.
Festival Theme: Festival season is on its way and usually starts up in the spring-time and peaks in the summer. Going through a variety of stores in the mall I work at, I noticed a wide range of different festival inspired clothing in many stores. Some pieces from the festival inspired themes included high-waisted shorts, colourful shorts, fringe over pieces, big sunhats, and 70’s inspired sunglasses. These are all pieces that could definitely be worn on an everyday basis (depending how edgy you are) but mostly seen at Coachella, and EDM festivals.
Ripped Jeans: I know this is the category our parents and grandparents often frown upon, but ripped jeans are such a staple part of this generation’s wardrobe. This spring is no exception, ripped jeans are EVERYWHERE and there’s a variety of different kinds to choose from in a bunch of stores. Whether you want light ripped jeans, dark ripped jeans, or even colourful ripped jeans, I promise you there is plenty of them out there for this season. Another awesome thing about this year’s ripped jeans is all the different styles of rips to choose from. Now you can choose ripped jeans with only knee slashes, or jeans with a few rips, or some that have rips and slashes all over.
Yellow’s, Blue’s, and Whites: While I was observing prominent colours from the spring collection at my store this year and other stores around the mall, I noticed a few colours that a lot of them had in common. Mustard yellow is a colour that I noticed to be definitely more popular this year. It’s a colour that hasn’t been necessarily “in” for a long time, but now I’ve seen this colour almost everywhere and it’s definitely beginning to grow on me. Baby blue’s and navy blue’s paired with white is also a common trend I’ve been seeing in a bunch of stores. Blue happens to be my favourite colour, and it’s also a colour that reminds me of spring/summer so I can’t complain about this year’s colour trend.
Tie-up Flats and Heels: Tie- up flats and heels has to be one of my favourite trends this year. These shoe styles are not only extremely fashionable and look “high-end,” but they come in so many different colours, styles, etc. Tie-up flats and heels can be found at almost any women’s shoe store in a local mall right now. As soon as I saw a pair and tried it on, I fell in love and had to buy it for myself (included a picture of my ripped jeans and tie-up flats below)
