Electric Island was back this past Civic Holiday and even with the upset of Seth Troxler not playing, the day was a success like always. We had a wet and humid weekend in the city, and after what was one of the busiest weekends for major events in the city—including VELD, Caribana and OVO just to a name a few—a rainy forecast didn’t hold anyone back from heading over to Centre Island. Electric Island proves to us yet again why it is one of the best events of the summer, and with a surprise appearance from politician Olivia Chow, no-one could have said it better: “Your passion soaked up the rain.”
Just like at the Canada Day edition, rain and thunder storms were in the forecast, but by mid-day, the sun was out, the temperature was perfect and everyone could feel the island bouncing to the sounds from a heavy line-up of some of the best DJs from all around the country, including Nitin, My Favourite Robot, Koki and Bob Moses. When word hit that Detroit’s Seth Troxler wasn’t going to be playing his highly anticipated set on the island, there was big disappointment throughout the crowd, but UK’s Maya Jane Coles hit the decks from an incredible extended set to save the day. At one point, we witnessed one of the most incredible moments of Electric Island history when we couldn’t see one person not grooving to the incredible sounds coming off the decks from the underground house queen that brought absolutely everyone to their feet.

Another mid-day surprise was when the music stopped and the sounds of an announcement being made put everyone’s high energy on hold. To great surprise, Toronto Mayor candidate, Olivia Chow, had everyone applauding after a speech about the passion Toronto has for electronic music and the why our parties, love for the music and all the amazing and creative people involved, bring a beauty to our city that words cannot describe.

Be sure to keep an eye out for all our upcoming highlights interviews from the Island with Koki, Nitin, My Favourite Robot and Bob Moses.
We are looking forward to the next Electric Island coming up Labour Day long weekend and this line-up is perfect to leave the summer with a bang….Tale of Us, Hot Since 82, and Jamie XX, alongside Terence Kissner, Gera, Members Only and Simon Jain. We will see you all there!
