Film lovers, reel it in—the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the world’s leading public film festival, is upon us…in 60 days!
Yes, 60 days, that’s how seriously we take this festival, the countdown began a year ago.
TIFF is a second vacation and a pre-Christmas celebration for all film lovers in and around Toronto and the world is invited to come and watch.
More than 300 films from over 60 countries are screened every September at TIFF which has evolved since 1976, becoming one of the world’s top platforms to premier films. Some of the biggest films to come out of TIFF include American Beauty, Ray, Silver Linings Playbook, Black Swan and Slumdog Millionaire, most of which have gone on to snag a couple of notable awards here and there. In addition to screenings, TIFF offers lectures, discussions, festivals and workshops presenting an opportunity to meet filmmakers from Canada and around the world.
Although films are screened in various locations (on Bloor, Charles, King, Richmond, Dundas, Charles and Front) in the downtown core; Yorkville is the hub of the festival. Known as the Rodeo Drive and Fifth Avenue of Toronto, here is where you get to see ‘real life’ films in the form of celebrity sightings.

In September 2010, the TIFF Bell Lightbox (at Reitman Square) opened. It’s a cultural centre built to expand Toronto’s creativity in the discovery and understanding of film. One can enjoy free guided tours of the building every Saturday and Sunday.
From regular tickets to red-carpet premiers, one can expect to part with anything from $18 to $46 for single tickets to TIFF. Various ticket packages are available for those who want to do nothing but ‘screen time’ for ten days.

Whether you’re a cinephile, star-struck being or would just like to volunteer, hang tight—the festival kicks off on September 4th.
