Toronto may still be winding down from TIFF, but a comedy festival will be filling the void it left behind soon enough. Starting Thursday, Sept. 19, JFL42 (Just For Laughs 42) will be bringing some of the best comedy acts in the world to the city. The major headliners this year will be performing at the Sony Centre – Sarah Silverman (on Sept. 20) and Aziz Ansari (Sept. 27).
The 10-day-long affair will also feature a live reading of the hit animated TV show Family Guy as one of the headliners. Cast members Seth MacFarlane, Mila Kunis, Seth Green and Alex Borstein will be performing this spectacle on Sept. 28 at the Sony Centre.
As the name hints at, (in addition to the headliners) there are 42 comedians booked for JFL42. The venues hosting the entertainers range from intimate to extravagant.
Just For Laughs was originally a two-day event held in Montreal in 1983 for French speakers. Several years later, it became longer (an entire month) and infused with Anglophone comedy acts.
The first Toronto-based JFL occurred in 2007. There was also a Chicago version launched in 2009. Today, it is considered the biggest international comedy festival in the world.
Digital passes for smartphones are available online and use a credit-based system. This means you get four credits when you buy a pass – each credit is good for a JFL42 comedy show of your choosing. If you check into a performance using social networking, you get the credit you used back and can reuse it infinitely during the 2013 festival.
A full lineup, schedule and detailed instructions of buying and using passes are available on JFL42’s official website – CLICK HERE. The festival will be running until Sept. 28.
