A variation of that phrase can be heard pretty much every summer—just substituted with whichever colour or style is in that year. For 2013 ‘bold stripes are the new solid’ and 2014, ‘orange is the new black.’ This also applies to hair and make-up.
It seems we’ve long accepted the fiercely vicious cycle that is fashion; and why not? Fashion rocks—wait, let’s do that right: #fashionrocks!
Each season we see the evolution and revolution of the fashion cycle and we love it! Gone are the days when: “Mum, those jeans are so seventies,” was a bad statement. Now, it’s more like ‘bring on the seventies’ as we also rock high-waisted shorts and crop tops in 2014…controversial or not, they are back!
But summer is definitely where it’s at; more so for those living in the Northern Hemisphere, where we only get to enjoy it fully for a couple of months at best.
From the runways to our streets, where does one even begin to shop? It’s easy—online—and if you’re on the go, APP it. That’s right, you don’t even have to think about it. Applications like Wanelo and Pinterest can tell you what you do or may like. All you have to do is “pin it” or simply “check-out” and it’s yours.
So, just what is on your ‘must-have list’ this year?
You are not expected to keep up with all trends (we hope), but there are definitely enough options for you to pick at least one that suits your look and style best. If not, why not start a head-turning summer trend of your own? As far we know none of them came out of thin air.
