Electric Island TO 2015: Round 3

Electric Island was epic July 1st and the series seems to get more electrifying with every event. If you missed the July 1st event you’re going to want to grab tickets to the August 3rd concert. It shouldn’t take that much convincing but just in case you don’t like sipping drinks on an island, with an amazing view of Toronto, while listening to good music, here’s the rundown on why you should grab all your besties and hit up Electric Island on this beautiful Monday.

electric island to 2015

Not only will the event be at Hanlan’s Point which has an awesome view (did we mention that), but expect lots of music from Art Department, Green Velvet, Robert Babicz, Shiba San, DJ Three, and The Junkies. These artists have quite the following so you don’t want to wait until August 2nd to get your tickets. Your friends won’t appreciate it if you wait until last minute.

We all have legend Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White to thank for the amazingness that is Art Department. They recently went their separate ways but Jonny is keeping the art alive by carrying on the name. This is actually Jonny’s first appearance since going solo and fans are sure that the show must go on and it’ll go on without a hitch. Jonny wants to go in a different direction than before and Love This City is confident that it will still be golden. The Art Department sound is known for being quite the party animals. The duo won awards on awards for the original style of music and the stellar performances all over the world.

Green Velvet (Cajmere) is known tremendously as that guy who attended university for engineering and somehow changed course after falling in love with producing house music. He’s been making waves in the industry since 1992 since his catchy “Coffee Pot” (Percolator) track. He’s remixed songs for celebrities from Madonna to Basement Jaxx. When Green Velvet shows up for a performance, he shows up. Last year he performed for Digital Dreamers in the pouring rain! The audience went nuts and continued cheering making this an epic moment in Digital Dream history. At least we know if it does rain for Electric Island we won’t have to worry about Green Velvet dropping out due to weather.

rob

Robert Babicz is a one-man party. He writes, records and performs his music with a commanding presence once he hits the stage there is no stopping him. But why would anyone want to stop this guy?“ Rob creates short films from all the footage at his shows and he puts them to his music and creates a bit of a trippy piece of art.  He’s not performer, Rob is a true artist. A Cheerful Temper” and “A Girl from Jupiter” are awesome listens if you’re new to Robert Babicz style.

Shiba San is known for his eclectic way of mixing soul and techno music. He’s been making hit after hit.  San’s known as one of the greats when it comes to house music and it’s because he’s always reinventing his sound and against sounding like everyone else. With that kind of attitude, he’ll always be steps ahead of the competition. You won’t have to ask, because you’ll know what San sounds like.

The Junkies paved their own way in the techno world by creating their own raw authentic sound dubbed “New School Tech.”  Not only are they always experimenting with sound but they’re always finding a way to come out with someone different, something fresh and that’s what keeps fans coming back to listen to see what these guys are going to do next. The DJ/artist duo is always remixing tracks and even looking for new talent for their Imprint Local Music label. Their known for their decade long residency at Guverment Nightclub. They’ve had hits like “A Blind Eye,” and “Angst.”

Again, your friends, Hanlan’s Point, the Toronto skyline, and quite the lineup of true artists. What more can you ask for on a beautiful summer day? Electric Island isn’t just a concert, it’s an experience. Your friends who don’t know about this electrifying experience, won’t be too happy if you go without them.
