While watching the news and reading all the horrible and tragic events happening in the world, the overwhelming feeling of helplessness becomes present in so many of us. Being so far away and being just one person in the middle of this crazy world, sometimes all we can do is hope for peace and sadly a lot of us become unintentionally ignorant, feeling powerless in a search to make this world a better place.
The largest refugee crisis since World War II is happening and almost 4 million have fled from Syria…the majority of them being women and children. This is something we CANNOT just ignore, even being half a world away.
There is a beautiful quote I’m sure many of you are familiar with…”Be the change you wish to see in the world”…and a group of wonderful Torontonians have come together to prove just that and define the reason why “we love this city”.
Tomorrow evening a very special event will be hosted in our beloved city- “Syria to the 6”. A group of Toronto’s most influential fanshionista’s have come together to sponsor a Syrian refugee family to come to our beautiful country to start a new life, and what better place to be than in “The Six”. And guess what? You’re invited! Tomorrow (Thursday, November 5th) at One King West Hotel the Fundraising Gala will be happening, and this will be an event you do not want to miss…music by DJ Natalie Sydoruk, food and drinks, along with a beyond fabulous silent auction, a speech by Olivia Chow, an amazing performance by Aerial Dance Cirque Company, and so so SO much more. With all proceeds from the event going directly to sponsoring a Syrian refugee family, what a better way to do your part in being that change you want to see in the world. Let’s help them reach their $50,000 goal!
We should all be so proud to not only to be Canadian but to be surrounded by such generous, caring, and when we all come together a very VERY powerful group of amazing human beings.
