Iconic UK electronic music trio; Above & Beyond performed their first U.S. groundbreaking acoustic show at LA’s legendary Greek Theatre this past Sunday. They were joined on stage by Sonny Moore (better known as Skrillex). He attended the first of the two sold-out shows which inspired him so much that the former From First To Last band member accepted Above & Beyond’s invitation to join them on stage on the second night offering his skills on the electric guitar alongside Tony’s vocals to perform “Black Room Boy” (from their Group Therapy album).
Jono Grant (Rhodes piano, vibraphone), Tony McGuinness (acoustic and electric guitar, vocals, mandolin, ukulele) and Paavo Siljamaki (piano, cello, vibraphone) were also accompanied on stage by a 13-piece band including a string quartet, harp, brass and percussion, and vocalists Zoe Johnston, Alex Vargas and Annie Drury. They performed songs from their three albums; two as Above & Beyond and one as OceanLab.
These performances brought the three musical masterminds back to their musical roots and showed the world that it’s not just about computers and pressing buttons (as many people are led to believe) – music is a full mind and body experience, performed in different artistic ways.
