Beyoncé – The Formation Tour Recap
May 31st, 2016 | Natalie Pereira
Queen Bey made her appearance in Toronto on Wednesday May 25th, with a spectacular performance filled with many of her classic songs, and booty poppin dance moves. Downtown Toronto was jam-packed that evening with The Formation Tour at the Rogers Centre, Raptors fans at Jurassic Park and Selena Gomez at the Air Canada Centre; making it the place to be on a Wednesday night.
Doors for The Formation Tour opened at 7:00pm, and the show officially started at 8:30pm where Grammy-nominated producer, DJ Scratch, hit the decks and got the crowd bumpin. He busted out some classic 2000’s hip hop songs and got everyone hollerin’ and out of there seats. Beyoncé came on at 9:30, and at this point the stadium was jam packed – all I could see were groups of girls (or moms) in shirts that said ‘I woke up like this’, or ‘Slay All Day”. Queen Bey came on stage in an all black outfit, and opened with one of her latest singles, ‘Formation’. After slaying the crowd with that song, Bey went on to perform some of her hit songs from her new album ‘Lemonade’, and some classics from her older albums. Screams echoed throughout the arena as she cut her routine to dance to ‘Cut It’ by O.T Genasis, and the most recent hip hop banger, ‘Panda’ by Desiigner, proving to everyone that Queen B could dance to anything.
One of my favorite moments of the concert is when Bey paid tribute to Prince, by playing Purple Rain as the stadium lit up with smartphone flashlights. Bey ended off her show with an impressive dance routine with her dancers amongst an ankle-high pool of water, and slowed things down as she finished with ‘Halo’, letting the audience fill in and sing the verses to her.
Queen B showed us why she deserved her title, putting on a flawless performance mixed with killer moves and unbelievably quick outfit changes. The Formation Tour continues on throughout the USA into Europe until October, with many sold out shows on her journey.
Pro Tip: Be sure to check out B’s favorite deli in Toronto, Caplansky’s, where she dropped $3500 on their infamous smoked meat sandwich’s for all members of her crew! Imagine how many Beyoncé concerts you could go to with that money…
