A large portion of the population of Canada awaits this fest, carefully following the countdown that has been put up on its website. You cannot blame them for being this excited, since the 16-day event is an unbelievable experience that will stick with you for life. Having been a part of this celebration of jazz music, I found out last year, that the Beaches International Jazz Festival turns 27-years old in 2015.
Bringing forth a bunch of artists whose music force you to get on the floor, this fiesta is crazy and tremendously enjoyable. Brian Hughes, Warren Hill, Molly Johnson, Lorraine Desmarais, Carl Weathersby, and Red Barrett are just some of the names of the artists that have graced this jazz festival with their presence.

Not only does the Beaches International Jazz Festival showcase the talent encompassed by the Torontonian jazz musicians, it also highlights the potential of the entire jazz industry in Canada. Thanks to this gala, the population of Canada gets the chance to appreciate the fiery, wholesome vibes of a street fest. Additionally, it also helps in understanding the depths of jazz music that is not limited to just the usual handful of world-famous jazz artists.
Just eleven months ago, I happened to get a hands-on experience of this gigantic festival, having been present during the following events:
- The Concerts: You must understand that this is a three-week long schedule of concerts that has been carefully planned. In the midst of enjoying these concerts, you could enjoy different cuisines available on the spot. By the end of the three weeks of concerts, it is certain that there will not be a patch of jazz that you will not understand. Weeks 1, 2, and 3 consist of the Woodpine Park concerts, while weeks 1 and 2 include the Farmers’ Market concerts series.
- Workshops: There are a handful of workshops that suit several age ranges, dabbling in ukulele jams, vocal styles, and even Latin percussions. These workshops take place from the 20th to the 22nd of July.
- Multi-Arts and Photography Programs: These include the Youth Mural Program, the Youth Arts Exhibition, and the Youth Curatorial Program. These schedules allow youngsters of ages 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 to indulge in volunteering in exhibiting their murals and art pieces, alongside learning to appreciate all forms of arts.
- Beaches Tune Up Jazz Run: 5k, 21k, and 42k marathons are held, attended by countless people. This seems to be for a noble cause, a method of raising money for patients of the Toronto East General Hospital.
