If you’re a fan of ground-breaking, experimental electronic music, you don’t want to miss out on Art Department, who will be performing on Sept. 6 at Cinema Nightclub.
Art Department is the collaborative project of Toronto’s very own shining stars Kenny Glasgow and Johnny White, both of whom have had great success as solo artists before joining forces in 2009.
Kenny Glasgow is a legend whose work dates all the way back to the 80s, having worked with Narcotic and Jinxx Records, as well as his own label, Method 11:11. As a house music producer, he has released many great singles, including ‘Pressing On’, ‘Hold On Me’, and ‘Final Frontier’, along with many collaborations, such as his ‘Strange Daze’ E.P. with Mario J, and ‘Put Your (Body To The Test)’ with the Matt C Project.
Johnny White has not only been producing his own music, rapidly increasing the size of his discography, but also been promoting the works of other underground electronic artists under his own record label, No. 19 Music.
Coming together four years ago, they created a duo to be reckoned with, blending their sounds together and coming up with one that is greater than the sum of its parts, a fresh and futuristic – fusing house, techno, funk, dubstep, hip-hop, and other sounds.
Their releases so far include ‘Vampire Nightclub’, ‘Without You’, ‘Touch You Gently’, their collaboration with producer Jamie Jones ‘Our Time In Liberty’, and, of course, their debut album released in 2011, ‘The Drawing Board’, which includes many of their previously released tracks, along with many new ones.
They’re a duo that has earned the hype that surrounds them, so make sure to buy your ticket before it’s too late.
