10 Things to Do in a Toronto Winter
Just because winter is coming doesn’t mean we all have to go into hibernation and the fun stops. Sure we’ll miss crop tops and partying on the beach but there are quite some things that we’ve missed about winter. If the warm weather never went away we wouldn’t miss it. Here a few things to keep you busy while you wait for summer to come back.
1. Ice skate
Rent some ice skates and go to a park and ice skate or even check out one of the many indoor skating rinks in Toronto. Nathan Phillips Square gets kind of packed. It’s definitely a fun way to work out and have fun with friends.
2. Winterlicious
The sister event to Summerlicious, Winterlicious is full of delicious foods and specials. Winterlicious is held January 29th to February 11th, 2016. Keep up with their Facebook for the official schedule and some awesome deals.
3. Ice Fest
Ice Fest has been going on for years (16 to be exact). Every year people come out to celebrate the cold and watch the ice carving competition and enjoy the frozen fun. (info)
4. Celebrate La Poutine Week
La Poutine Week is from February 1 to 7th 2016 and it’ll make you want to eat poutine the entire week. Selected restaurants participate by creating their own poutine dishes for $10. (info)
5. Go to the Next Stage Theatre Festival
Next Stage Festival is returning for its eighth season and it brings twelve days of theatre. With a crowd of 7,000 people check out some movies by fringe indie artists. (info)
6. Go to Archery District
We’re not telling you what to do but Archery District is pretty cool. It takes archery to a new level. Let the odds be ever in your favor as you and your friends are split into districts “Hunger Games” style and you practice your archery game with foam tipped arrows. If that isn’t cool we don’t know what is. (info)
7. Go Swimming
We usually don’t encourage crazy by why not? Apparently there’s a tradition that once a year on January 1st people like to jump into Lake Ontario to start the year with a clean slate. If you’re adventurous go for it, if not find an indoor pool and go swimming.
8. Go Sledding
Find a sled, new or old or even a laundry basket and get some friends together and go sledding for old times sake. You probably haven’t been on a sled since kids but it’s okay go for it.
9. Go Shopping
Grab your friends and go shopping for a new pair of boots and a new winter coat because you’re going to need it. It can get kind of cold exploring all these new places.
10. Watch Some Hockey

Rather you go to a friends house, one of the many local breweries or at the arena, check out Maple Leafs on the ice and make it into a social outing. Good old fashioned sports are known for bringing people together.
Winter doesn’t have to be terrible. It’s all what you make it. What’s your favorite winter activity?
