November 17th Makeup for Melanin Girls teams up with Beauty Revolution Studio and and Zazaii Toronto for an evening of diversity. It’s a free event celebrating all things beauty, fashion, and diversity. Attendees must register on the official Melanin Magic Popup site to be in on the celebration. Each attendee gets beauty discounts and a cool swag bag.
Makeup for Melanin Girls may have started as an Instagram community of women celebrating their diversity and expressing their need and want for representation in the beauty industry. Since the @makeupformelaningirls Instagram account appeared on the scene the mission expanded way beyond the internet.
Makeup for Melanin Girls took the actual feedback from the community and created their own line of cosmetics featuring women of color rocking bold lipsticks and shimmery shadows that complimented their magic. The group’s been featured in The New York Times, Buzzfeed, and Hello Giggles. They haven’t completely solved the issue of representation but they’re taking on the task one palette and Instagram post at a time.
Make sure to register for the Melanin Magic Popup event as there’s nothing more magical than a group of women getting together to celebrate themselves. Everyone needs a little pat on the back at times and I’m certain that Zazaii Toronto will be nothing short of magical on November 17th.
