When you say summer in Toronto you would automatically have in your mind the night escapades, beach parties, music festivals and more. However, Toronto is not only known for those annual events every summer. There is also an event to accommodate not just the music lovers but also those who want to dance. Salsa at Blue Mountain is an annual festival that started five years ago. This Latino festival is sponsored by the TLN Telelatino network. Salsa on St. Clair is created when TLN Telelatino, Hillcrest Village BIA and the city government of Toronto joined forces to create this musical street event. This family-oriented event featured the Latin culture in Toronto and its rich influence in the city. Salsa on St. Clair is the fastest growing Latin themed festival in Toronto. Sure, the streets of midtown Toronto’s Hillcrest Village were filled with fun, music and dance.

This free family street party attracted over a million salsa lovers to participate. Salsa is a good form of exercise so this event is also good for those who want to stay fit this summer. And speaking of exercise, every day a Zumba class at the Main stage was performed. Zumba is a Latin Dance that uses different movements to stretch the muscles of your body and helps you lose fat.
There were 6 spots during the event. Those were located along St. Claire Avenue West. They were named as Spot A, B, C, D, E, and F. Every hour there were different activities at each location. The event on July 13 was started by the Samba Squad on 12pm at Spot A with other events simultaneously held on other spots. The first day ended with a parade along the St. Clair Avenue at 9:00pm from Winona to Christie.
July 14 started with a Rhythmic Fire Danz performance on Hot Spot B. A great performance from The Imbyakunas was also witnessed on Spot B at 1:00pm. The last event on spot E prior to the parade was the Los Salsomanos performance at 8:00pm. The two day event culminated with a parade along the St. Clair Avenue, from Winona to Christie.
The Parade Artist were from The Swizzlestick Theatre. They featured spectacular performances of their artist combined with great designs and costumes. Alongside with wonderful performances, the event was also hosted with equally energetic and good hosts. Anne-Marie Mediwake, who was named the GTA’s Woman of the Year at the Consumer’s Choice Awards, Mary Ito, who is also hosting CBC’s Living in Toronto, and Jesus Arias, who have hosted several salsa festivals of TLN.
