World Body Painting Festival is an annual event in Austria where thousands of artistic people with creative minds are coming to participate and celebrate the one of the most remarkable event that highlights different talents, arts and creations. The celebration is divided with 3 days event and have corresponding activities in each. The organizer Alexander Barendregt cannot possibly explain how overwhelming the participation of the people from around the world as they join the festival.
In the event there are many countries competing for the World Body Painting Awards. They all climb into being one of the best, as they all really are. The competition has different fields such as Face and body painting, airbrush painting, photography, makeup effects, digital retouching and lectures. The entries are all inspiring and outstanding in their own little ways. In the event, the Body Paint City is divided into North and South City. The artists’ tents, stages, catering and exhibitions were all settled on the morning of the first day.
In the first 2 main day event (July 6-7) which is themed ‘Inner fears, battling the invisible’ many artists already showed interesting body art works. On the first day they already started the day with a surprising special effects makeup that are designed and specifically made by the participants. The preliminary round was judged by different juries who came from different fields and countries that specializes in judging the presentations. Some of the judges are: Craig Tracy and Filippo Loco from USA, Patrick McCann from Germany, Jinny of Canada, Yolanda Bartram from New Zeeland, and Ernst Wieser of Austria.
According to the participants from different countries, the competition is getting tougher and tougher each year. For the last main day which is July 8, Sunday. The finale is themed as’ Avant-garde – innovation.provocation’. The awarding will with the main and secondary awards are right after the finale where many artists already signed and passed their entries within the given period. The finale was very spectacular and entertaining as many of the final artworks were presented on stage, and the models had their final walk to the runway to present their respective designer’s work.
The festival all in all was really all set and organized. There are exhibitions, lectures to inspire the artists, fine musics performed by local bands, photo area for the photographers, VIP lounge, Fashion contests, and many more. The event was filled with the complete package to every 26,000 visitors who joined the Festival. The event was presented by Kryolan that is very responsible for the success of the given event. The upcoming World Body Painting Festival 2013 will also be held in Austria, starting July 1-7.
