Toronto Home Share Program Hopes to Build Community

The rent is way too high in Toronto and if you’re a student it’s almost unachievable to find affordable living. Toronto’s newest initiative Home Share is here to help.

Toronto Home Share Program Hopes to Build Community

Home Share a pilot program pairing senior citizens who have extra room with students who desperately need an affordable room. This just makes my heart melt. It’s modeled like ride sharing but instead of cars these lovely people are sharing their homes in exchange for a small fee and contributing to the household. $300- $600 monthly plus a few hours of chores sounds like a good deal. It’s also a way of building communities in a love your neighbor kind of way.

Students are paired with homeowners and the homeowner gets the last say. This program has worked in Halton and Hamilton and since it’s a pilot program is only going to be around for a limited time. It was just announced this month and apparently Home Share is building quite the buzz.
