Thankfully saving the planet is starting to be a trend that people and companies are starting to get behind. As many Toronto establishments move toward getting rid of plastic straws these companies are also realizing that no matter how cool black plastic looks, it’s time to get rid of that also. Black plastic simply can’t be recycled and recycling plants throw them away. Which makes them just as useless as straws. With over 80 Toronto establishments doing away with straws these businesses are looking at other plastics that aren’t eco-friendly. A few Toronto businesses have already ditched their black takeout containers and Parkdale’s  The Tempered Room made headlines for doing away with their black coffee lids (the new ones look trendier anyways). Every little effort helps in the mission to sustain the planet and once other places realize that we have an unhealthy dependence on plastic maybe straws and black plastic may be a thing of the past.
