Deadmau5 is readying up a new album and it’s worth the wait. Titled W:\2016Album (pronounced as “w drive 2016 album) this is his first independent album under his mau5trap label. After dropping “Let Go” featuring Grabbitz momentum is at all-time high.
W:\2016Album is a mix of material deadmau5 has been holding on to for the last few years. The standout track “Let Go” is just the beginning of such a moody trip. “Blood for The Bloodgoat” is a rework of the previously released “Silent Picture.”
“2448” sounds familiar because it’s the new anthem for the Toronto Maple Leafs and is sure to have you tapping your feet or clapping your hands. W:\2016Album is such a mix of old and new techno and somehow creates the perfect balance. When asked about where he is musically deadmau5 responded, “I’m starting to appreciate or at least come to grips with that it’s okay to just end the song and then do another one. I’m not a DJ, I’m not up there blending songs together in a harmonious way that aren’t mine, that create this seamless flow.”
W:\2016Album shows that he’s comfortable with his music and he doesn’t box his sound into one type of techno. The track list looks quite insane and we can’t wait to hear the entire thing. Do take a listen to “Let Go” below and don’t forget to preorder the album.
