Labelled #2 on Beatport’s “15 Incredible Techno Festivals to Hit in 2015”, Resident Advisor’s “Festival of the Month”, New York Times “50 Essential Summer Festivals in 2015” and a very VERY long list of others are just a few of things to get you excited for the return of the Movement Festival at the legendary Hart Plaza in Detroit…which FINALLY is just a few short days away! The anticipation of Movement begins pretty much immediately after the festival ends each year and the countdown is ON for tens of thousands of the worlds most passionate electronic music lovers to meet in the heart of the city for a weekend of dancing, celebrations, the meeting of old and new friends, exploration of the world’s best music, and nothing but the most amazing energy one could experience at a festival. If you have been to Movement in the past, the mother of all techno festivals needs no introduction, but if this is your first, hold on tight because you are definitely in for a ride!
This year the festival will be hosting over 140 artists and performers over 6 stages. Always with a diverse selection of sounds you can be sure to have a space to let your musical mind free. Whether dark and underground techno runs your soul, or you want to bounce to the world’s best tech house, or get mesmerized by dreamy and melodic deep progressive while the night turns into the morning, or maybe you are just as curious as us to see what DJ Snoopadelic (Snoop Dogg) is all about, even if hip-hop is your thing…whatever sound you gravitate towards Movement will definitely be satisfying your ears, mind, body and soul.
There are a few of our beloved Canadians to keep an eye out for this year, like Canadian Techno leader Greg Gow who is playing Monday 2-3pm on Thump’s Made In Detroit Stage (https://www.facebook.com/kevinsaundersonpresentsorigins). Our underground queen Sydney Blu will be playing an official after party Saturday at Club V at the MGM Grand (http://www.neptix.com/events/20635/0/). Sound Mind’s Justin James and Weska will be rocking the Octopus Recordings Afterparty Sunday (https://www.facebook.com/events/864113850311891), and Canadian duo Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White perform together one-last time as Art Department Sunday at 7:30-9 PM on the main stage.
One of the only downfalls of Movement is the decision making. Where to go, who to see and the contemplation between so many amazing shows. Decisions, decisions! We have the complete schedule for the 3 days of shows at Movement (at bottom) and a guide to some of the best afterparties you can imagine. So many parties, so little time!
If you miss your favourite performer at the festival itself, you’ll be sure to be able to catch them at the huge collection of afterparties just as captivating as the festival itself. Also, Something exciting this year is the official Movement APP for Smartphones. You can learn more about new and past artists, plan your days and nights at the festival and will offer a complete guide to all the official afterparties. (Search 2015 Movement in your APP store to download).
Of course, Love This City TV will be covering the festival with all the highlights of the weekend and interviews with some of the top performers and we will be going behind of the scenes to bring you the best of everything MOVEMENT. We know you are just as excited as us to head down to Detroit this weekend, so let the countdown begin!
