Kick off the week with politics. The good kind – The Politics of Fashion and The Fashion of Politics exhibit is on at the Design Exchange. Jeanne Beker, Canada’s very own fashion icon, guest-curated the display that looks at the impact fashion has on the political world and how it is used as a tool for communication in pop culture.

Monday also marks the last day for Lunchtime Live at Yonge-Dundas Square. The Sinners Choir will be closing off this iconic Monday ritual, where downtown workers get to watch a free concert while on lunch all summer! Thank you Virgin Mobile, ‘til next time.
Tuesday

The Equalizer (Denzel Washington) was Friday’s big movie premier. He’s a retired intelligence officer who helps those in need. This time round, his act of kindness gets him mixed up with the Russian Mob – we don’t want to ruin the rest, so go see it! Then there were the Boxtrolls, who raised an orphaned boy in the underground sewers until he decided to come up from down under to save the town from Arichibald Snatcher, the evil exterminator. As far as animated movies of 2014 go, word on the film reel street is that this is must-see. There’s only one way to find out.

Wednesday
Wednesday is open mic night. “The Only Cafe” on the Danforth, “Johnny Jackson” on College and “Club 120” (Richmond and Church) all host open mic sessions on Wednesdays. Come on, don’t be shy or at least come see others step out of their comfort zones.

If you’re in the mood for a “wicked” play, Wicked is on at the Ed Mirvish Theatre. The Tony-Awarded musical tells the untold story of the witches of Oz in this Wicked Witch of the West vs. Good Witch story.

Thursday
Ready to “Walk the Line?” Thursday night is Johnny Cash Tribute Night at the Horseshoe Tavern. Come see artists such as Danny Greaves and Devin Cuddy (amongst others) put their own spin on Cash’s music.

Swedish rocker Tove Lo graces us with her presence at the Phoenix Concert Theatre on Thursday Night. Pop on over, why don’t you?
Friday
It’s the PUCKing season people (almost officially). If you missed the September 28th pre-game, be sure to catch the Toronto Maple Leafs as they take on the Detroit Red Wings this Friday at the Air Canada Centre (ACC).

Down in the entertainment district, Time Nightclub invites you to reload with them EVERY Friday with Toronto’s best talent in music. Think Mike Jacinto, Knoxx, Heather Van Viper, Scotty Scratch and so much more. Don’t forget to put your best “fit” on.
Or swing by Kool Haus for Porter Robinson’s Worlds Tour.
Saturday

Welcome to Munich…in Toronto! You got it; Oktoberfest is back with authentic food, drinks and high spirits from Deutschland! The Ontario Place parking lot is where you need to be to join the Wolfgangs and Birgits of our city (even assume a German name for yourself this weekend) and enjoy your Spaten in the massive outdoor biergarten!
Don’t be afraid of the dark and join the masses all over downtown for Nuit Blanche, Toronto’s wicked annual all-night arts festival on October 4th. Explore museums, art galleries and the streets of Toronto for free exhibits that will light up our city….at night.

Dress 2 Kill for Cher’s D2K Tour on Saturday. The Goddess of Pop will bring the house down at the ACC. “Believe” it!

Sunday
Make it a jazzy Sunday and have brunch with Steve Amirault at the Jazz Bistro, one of Toronto’s premium jazz bars.
It’s a Small World (Music Festival) after all. Catch Lisa Patterson, Drew Gonsalves, Aviva Chernick and Donné Roberts on the last day of this culturally diverse festival at the Small World Music Centre on Shaw Street.
