There’s so much to do and see this long weekend. Today was the first day of VELD Music Festival and it was nothing short of expectations. The day began with a little bit of rain, but we didn’t let that stop us! If anything, we partied harder. It wasn’t blood, sweat and tears—it was mud, sweat and rain!
Needless to say, most of the population was at the main Veld Stage. The other half was split between the Bacardi Stage and the bathrooms/water stations. We are so lucky to have the privilege to interview Dannic, Overwerk, Bingo Players and more. Everyone was so down-to-earth. Look out for these exclusive LoveThisCityTV interviews, which will be posted in the upcoming week.
Backstage with Dannic was an experience like no other; a sensation that can’t be put into words. Sure, most of us have been on the other side of the stage countless times pushing, shoving and dancing in a crowd of thousands of people. To be on the other side of the stage, behind the artist himself is a completely different story. I knew that the festival was to attract an audience of 80,000 – 100,000 people, but you really have no idea how large that number is until you see the crowd from a different angle. Thousands of people jumping in unison while wearing the wildest outfits and holding the funniest things (flamingos, blow-up dolls, blow-up monkeys, balloons)!
Sebastian Ingrosso played lots of oldies, but goodies, and also gave us a taste of some new tracks that he’ll be dropping soon, including one with Axwell! This announcement made the crowd go out of control, and I loved every bit of it!
The Bacardi Stage had a crowd that was a little more intimate than the Veld Stage but was packed nonetheless. OVERWERK put on a flawless performance and I have never seen such talented dancers in my life than I saw during Overwerk’s set.
The last set of the night was by Armin Van Buuren and it was epic. It undoubtedly attracted the largest crowd of the day and he closed with This is What it Feels Like. Day one of VELD Music Festival could not have ended in a better way.
On another note, if you haven’t tried on the glasses from the merch booth, you need to get yourself a pair because they make the show 100x better!
