TIFF 2014 First Line-Up Announced!

The Toronto International Film Festival doesn’t start until September, but the first line-up is usually released early to get everyone excited. This year, it looks like TIFF has boasted itself to a great start. There’s a variety of films, ranging from your star-studded action thrillers to smaller, thoughtful indie films.

Films with Adam Sandler, Andrew Garfield, Octavia Spencer, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Winslet, Steve Carell, Tina Fey (and waaay more) are set to premiere and/or screen at the festival.

So far, there are 3 Canadian films on the roster.

1) Hector and the Search for Happiness

A comedy directed by Peter Chelsom, Hector and the Search for Happiness is about a psychiatrist who’s not totally happy with his current life status. So he embarks on a journey around the world to discover what happiness is all about!

2) Maps to the Stars

The legendary David Cronenberg is back with a film that can only be described as the “acidulous vision of Tinseltown”. This is also one of the few films that snatched a gala spotlight, so we’ll be on the look out for the film’s main stars Julianne Moore, Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska!

3) Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet

As one of the few animated films that are currently on the list, director Roger Allers and many talented animators work together to create a tale of a young girl (voiced by Quvenzhané Wallis), who is trying to free an imprisoned poet (Liam Neeson).

For the first time ever, TIFF is preparing to transform King Street West into “Festival Street!”

Festival Street will be going on during the first four days of TIFF (September 4-7), in hopes of allowing attendees to connect with others and find some fun activities to partake in between screenings of world premieres. The street fair will include live music performances, delicious food and much more. A portion of King Street, from University Avenue to Peter Street, will be closed completely for the pedestrians. Additional details will be supplied as TIFF rolls closer!

Are you excited about this year’s film selection and new street festival? Let us know what you think!
