As Playboy magazine enters its 61st year of publication, one can only wonder about all the different women who have been seen in this Internationally acclaimed magazine. The following will be a list of the top 10 women who have graced these magical pages as compiled from multiple lists, and Love This City’s personal favourites. Some places that were used for reference were Spike, Time, and Brobible. Love This City takes pride in their “Top 10” lists and welcomes feedback.
10. Donna D’Errico was Playmate of the Month in September 1995. She went on to have a starring role in Baywatch and was married to Nikki Sixx of Motely Crue before they divorced in 2006. Ironically, Nikki Sixx has been married to several of Playboy’s top models.
9. Bettie Page posed for Playboy in January 1955. She was a pinup model from the 50’s and 60’s who’s timeless pictorials and posters can still be found today. She has been called the “Queen of Pinups”, and has tributes made towards her by several of today’s top stars including Beyonce.
8. Shannon Tweed was Miss November 1981, and Playboy’s Playmate of the Year 1982. She has starred in several “B movies”, and is possibly best known for her relationship with Gene Simmons of Kiss. Another lesser known fact about Shannon Tweed, is the fact that she is Canadian.
7. Anna Nicole Smith graced the pages of Playboy in May 1992. She later went on to become Playmate of the Year in 1993. At the time of her Playboy appearances, Smith was on top of the world with her career but sadly that did not last.
6. Jenny McCarthy was Playmate of the Month in October 1993 and Playmate of the Year in 1994. She has appeared in several issues of Playboy and is one of the most successful Playmates ever. Playboy discovered her after she sent in some photographs of herself. She has since starred in her own sketch show, sitcom, films, written books and become a spokesperson for Autism.
5. Farrah Fawcett first appeared in Playboy in 1978 when she was at the prime of her acting career with Charlie’s Angels. She was only semi-nude in her first spread, but at the age of 50 returned to do a second pictorial in 1997. This issue became one of Playboy’s best sellers.
4. Bo Derek hit Playboy in March 1980. There aren’t many people who do not know the scene from the movie “10” with Derek running on the beach in slow motion. As a long-standing sex symbol, Derek appeared in the magazine numerous times.
3. Victoria Silvstedt was a Swedish model and former professional skier. She became one of the most popular models for Playboy and has used it to launch her own career in Europe. She hosts several games shows, still models for different agencies, and has even attempted a music career.
2. Marilyn Monroe was the first ever Playmate of the Month in December 1953, with was referred to then as “Sweetheart of the Month.” She did not formally pose for the magazine, rather nude photographs were taken in 1947, purchase and then used. Marilyn Monroe, whether in Playboy or not, has always been a sexual icon.
1. Pamela Anderson first appeared on the cover of Playboy in October 1989. The following year she was February’s Playmate of the Month. Anderson has appeared on the cover of Playboy a record setting 12 times. She is easily the most famous Playmate of all time and yet she was never crowned Playmate of the Year.
