However, after the last residents were moved out, the town was closed and remains vacant without any development or changes made from the time people left. Rumors began to surface that it was a government cover up in attempts of hiding a chemical spill nearby. Thus far no mutants have shown up in Helltown, but it’s silence is an eerie reminder of what used to be.

This island off the coast of Venice was used to house people who showed signs of the “Black Plague”. Boatloads of people were shipped to this island where they were institutionalized until dying. It was at this time that the “death masks” were created by doctors. Now known as a souvenir from Venice, these long nosed masks were designed and worn by the doctors who went to the island in attempts to cure the victims. Since the plague ended, the island has remained abandoned and boaters will not even sail near it for fear of the spirits coming across the water and attacking them. If you can find the right person though, you can go to this island and discover the many spirits that haunt it.

2. Pripyat, Ukraine

Surprisingly, this area is now open for tourists and many of the people who visit report seeing silhouettes of ghosts and other potential monsters roaming the halls and buildings that still stand. One of the most haunting places is the local hospital, which still claims to have doctors and nurses working long after they have passed on. Wheelchairs can be seen moving on their own and disembodied voices are heard throughout. If it wasn’t for the fear of radiation poisoning, this would be a ghost hunters dream location.

Located in the suburb of Xochimilco near Mexico City, this Island was inhabited by a single owner who witnessed the death of a young girl on the banks near the river. He felt that her spirit remained on the island and in order to appease her, he began collecting dolls and placing them all around the island for her to play with. Since his death in 2001 the island has remained vacant aside from the groundskeeper who has kept things as they were. Many people who have visited this island claim they have heard the playful cries of the little girl. Aside from the voices, the fact that the entire island is filled with decaying dolls gives it a very creepy feeling. Furthermore, during a televised exposition of the island, one of the dolls began giving off a high level of energy and as the camera focused on it, one of the eyes opened up on its own.
