Ah, Labour day. The happiest and saddest day of the year. You get a day off but it marks the end of the summer, with most kids starting school and parents going right back to work the next day. But don’t fret! Below are some of the awesome events and festivals you can attend to pack in some last minute summer memories.

 

First and foremost, if you haven’t checked out the ex yet, it is a must that you attend before it closes up shop for the year. September 1-3 it will be open from 9 am to midnight and 9 am – 9 pm on Labour day. You will also be able to catch the notorious Canadian International Air Show where you will see planes flying in mesmerizing paths all in sync with each other. You will also catch the roaring, lightning fast fighter jets that accompany the show, don’t blink though!

Buskerfest is another staple of Labour day in Toronto. This free-to-attend event features some of the most talented street performers in the world including, but not limited to, musicians, entertainers, and sketch artists. Spectator participation is a big part of these shows so if you get called out, don’t be afraid to participate!

Calling all geeks and comic fans! Fan Expo Canada is another great festival to attend. You can pay homage to your favorite fictional character or superhero by dressing up in a cosplay outfit as well as being able to purchase rare art and gaming equipment you won’t find anywhere else. There will also be special guest appearances including the cast of Stranger Things, Tim Curry, Matt Smith, Nathan Fillion, Famke Janssen, Norman Reedus, Catherine Tate and Karen Gillan.

Need something more exhilarating that’ll satisfy your party cravings? Look no further than the Electric Island festival. The festival is located at Hanlan’s Point and will last two days from September 3-4. You can find a list of the entire festival lineup here.

Not looking to party with some millennials with dance music blasting in your face? Looking to just satisfy some cravings for some, oh I don’t know, delicious, juicy, mouth-watering ribs? Well, you’re in luck! Ribfest will take place at Spencer Smith Park in Burlington. Over 150,000 pounds of ribs will be consumed over the 4-day event all made by 20 of the best ribs teams in North America! There will also be entertainment, music, and plenty of activities.
